Capstone Week 7

Capstone Week 7 This week started with preparing and practicing for the mid-term presentation. Every team presented the issue they are trying to solve and their progress so far. I went over the reworked design drawings that were done by the team. I spent most of my time in the lab this week trying to learn National Instrument Elvis II and attempting to connect the pressure sensor and troubleshooting since I was not getting any readings from the sensor. I tested the sensor with Elvis II application and with a multimeter as Dr. Rickard suggested when I met with him. I did some research for my ethics topic and emailed Dr. Gordon for approval. My topic of choice is Edwards Lifesciences' 11,000 devices used to monitor patient blood pressure and pulse, during and after surgery that malfunctioned in 2019.

This week was shakedowns, bench top testing, and more shakedown designs. Our materials all hadn't come for some of our shakedowns, so we focused on our bench top testing to begin, then we designed more shakedowns.  BenchTop Testing Our bench top testing is done on the Ahmed valve to see how it preforms when we can control the flow, resistance, and pressure. We had to create an encasing for the Ahmed to simulate fibrosis and add it to our bench test. Here are a few pictures of Kierstin and I working on the setup, and get the flow sensor to work in our system. Fady is working on the pressure sensors, so we will be able to execute this bench top testing on Wednesday during class time. This set up took so long because we had to find supplies in Dr. Rickard's lab that we could experiment with and see if they would fit in our set up.  ShakeDown #1 The first shakedown we were able to do with the supplies we had was seeing how water flowed through a tube when it was partially blocked

Week 7: In class: This week in class, all the groups presented their projects. We started with the exoskeleton group, then the glaucoma group, the memory shape polymer group, and lastly the children's sports equipment group. It was really interesting to hear what everyone was working on and the problems we are trying to find solutions to. A brief meeting with Dr. Rickard:  On Thursday morning Dr. Rickard stopped by my desk and went over a few design concepts with me and suggested that I look into contacting new worlds supplier to see if we can get some silicone samples.  He also liked our concept of an expanding tube and did not think that we need a pin to hold it open. He suggested that something to think about would be redirecting the flow outputs. These are his notes from the meeting. I looked up who could be new worlds' supplier, and this was the most likely supplier. After doing this research I talked with Alex and she said she could contact them to see if they could send

Week 6: Meeting with the client- Our team met with the client to go over the different designs we came up with to make sure were on the right track and get feedback. Meeting with Dr. Kim- I met with Dr. Kim to understand how to use the National Instrument Elvis II, and he also helped me with understanding how to read the pressure sensor schematic. Dr. Kim explained how to connect the pressure sensor to the board. Meeting with Dr. Rickard- Dr. Rickard assisted me in setting up the National Instrument Elvis II application on my personal computer. He also suggested using a Multimeter and the Elvis II application to compare results and see which one is more accurate. Mid-Semester Presentation- I worked on the mid-term presentation with my team. I spent a good amount of time this week practicing and preparing for our mid-term presentation.

Week 6

This week in class was brief because of the engineering career fair. We had a quick lesson with Dr. Gordon and went over our designs and budget with him.  Meeting with Client: In this meeting we went over our 3 designs, after discussion we decided to choose Kierstin's design of the parallel resistance, but then in the first valve we will be using a dissolvable component.  Dr. Rickard was able to give us important feedback for each design and help us decide which one had the most potential of working.  Updates to Del #3 I had Deliverable 3 for updating and inputting into the mid semester notebook. I fixed some formatting and spelling errors and read over it again before adding it to the notebook. Powerpoint: This week I was the one mainly in charge of the powerpoint. Kierstin found the template/color scheme for us, and I filled the slide with content. I contributed slides (3,4,6, 8-16, 20, 22, 23), so every slide but these 5: (1,2,5,7,21). This took most of my time deciding what ne

Week 6:  Dr. Gordon talked about Next week's presentations and that we need to turn in our notebook, budget, and team evaluations by next Wednesday.  Jira Del #2 Update for Notebook Deliverable 2 ver 2:  …  Created and made a theme for ppt. Presentation. Added all the custom colors, and the slide titles for the different sections. Created Title slide as well. Fixed the budget to make a necessary, good, and great project budget I tried again to troubleshoot my Solidworks download. I had to google each one of my error pop-ups and then figure out how to fix it. This took much longer than I anticipated having to troubleshoot and download.  https://www.reddit.com/r/SolidWorks/comments/iqu2cb/sql_installation_error/   I finally got all the issues resolved (I had to switch my compatibility and then uncheck the electronics portion of the download).   Drew up an updated design first on Ipad before I could start on Solidworks. The new design had fenestration holes, like Ahmed. It also had

Week 5:      This week consisted of meetings with the client about budgeting and materials needed for testing. I researched National Instrument Elvis II and how to connect a pressure sensor to a breadboard. Brainstormed design ideas, and researched Ahmed valve. I went over the client questionnaire to make sure my design idea includes all requirements needed for the valve. Came up with a shakedown test for my design idea.
